Counseling
Dr. Bob Whiddon, Jr. is a marriage and family counselor, registered in the State of Washington. With 25 years of counseling experience, Dr. Whiddon is well-qualified to help you with issues that concern you, your marriage or your family.
Temperament Therapy
Everyone was born with a certain temperament. That's why some are leaders, some are followers, some are thinkers, and some are movers. Personality is how one uses or misuses temperament. Our test will go back behind personalities, help you discover your temperament, and understand why you do what you do, why you put up the defenses you do in crisis or confrontation. Then, we can help you develop a plan to better confront issues and better interact with those around you. Temperament therapy is especially good for couples to better understand and communicate with each other.
Cognitive Therapy
Our lives and behaviors are definitely results of the influencers in our lives. As you progress through counseling, cognitive therapy will be employed to further help you discover why you do what you do. And though outside influencers can explain a lot of things, they cannot used as excuses or "permission" to behave improperly. We will help you understand and find good ways to face life.
Dealing with Issues
You will not be left to figure out ways to deal with overwhelming issues by yourself. We believe in directive counseling in which we will gently steer you into the proper ways to handle whatever issues you are facing.
Communication
Especially in dealing with marriage issues, men and women come from different planets. We will teach you how to talk in each other's language, to see issues from the other's perspective, and to resolve conflicts in ways that will be beneficial to both.
Conflict Resolution
We teach the C*E*A*S*E Fighting conflict resolution tool to each couple and each family. It is a five-step process, developed over the years by Dr. Whiddon, to help resolve any conflict big or small, past or present. You will practice this in counseling sessions and as homework between counseling sessions.
Homework
We believe that you cannot be successful in working on the issues if you do so only once a week for about an hour in front of a counselor. Appropriate homework will be assigned to the individual/couple/family between sessions to practice what was learned in counseling. And, we expect homework to be completed. It is better to work on the issues seven days a week, not just one.
